Re: Reaching out
Just for clarity tsunami, on here this morning, has been described as a tidal wave.

Here is a definition of tsunami:

A very large ocean wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption.
A great tidal disturbance which may be caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or barometric depressions.
A very large and destructive wave, generally caused by a tremendous disturbance in the ocean, such as undersea earthquakes.

Agreed it's irritating and reminds me of an evangelical preacher.
They use it all the time at my work and I really want to say why not just fucking call or email.

Re: Reaching out
"GUYS", "AMAZING", "PERFECT".

Just before Christmas, I popped into Boots for a voucher. Two shop assistants stood nearby informing all that the tills were closed and it was all self-service, I mentioned that I wanted to buy a voucher so would need to use the till. Found myself behind another customer, who was returning something. All in all it took a good 20, 25 minutes, to buy a gift voucher.

Their parting word at the end of all this being "PERFECT".

Generally, the highest turnover of staff are:
HR
R&D
Advertising
Sales
Quality

All nob head jobs (one of which I worked in for twelve years)

Joe, lots of job role's have to make themselves more important than they actually are......I find this with HR especially......others may disagree though......

Now if you feel that you can't go on
Because all of your hope is gone
And your life is filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is crumblin' down
Darling, reach out, come on girl, reach on out for me
Reach out, reach out for me
I'll be there, with a love that will shelter you
I'll be there, with a love that will see you through

Re: Reaching out
Had a new HR lady at work, lots of reaching out and moving forward .

Received this yesterday

Good morning all,

Going forward all of you will need to come into the office following completion of your duties during office hours. There are currently far to many occasions where team members are leaving site without reporting to the transport team. There are elements of training, compliance issues etc. that can only be resolved on a face-to-face basis.

I trust I have your full support going forward.

Thank you.

I asked her that as my nexr job finishes on a sat and I fly on Sunday what should I do,

The reply .

As stated this only applies to office hours. As the office is closed at the weekends then you won’t need to pop in.

Hope this clears up your query.

Was so tempted to reply “bit of a pointless memo really’

Thing is the office know where we are at any given time (trucks are tracked) and only have to look out of the window when we return to see us if there is a problem.

Never had this at Trans Am.

I'm pleased you brought this up because I think its important that we're both singing from the same hymn book.

Re: Reaching out
'Chutzpah' is a great one, as is 'hubris'.

I'm uncertain about 'craic'. It has a meaning not quite precisely covered by 'talk' or 'gossip' but it's getting very over-used. I suspect I'm agin' it.

Re: Reaching out
I do hate the “we have to let you go” . It’s like you were caged in in the first place and then released .

Also when they “table” something it’s removed and the opposite of us.

Kaiser Zoso 12:27 Fri Feb 24

Chutzpah is maybe another one.

Re: Reaching out
Reach out does my head in.

Another one is when people say "I will revert back to you"

Also, when did teachers stop calling pupils "pupils" and calling them "students". They are two different things.

SurfaceAgentX2Zero 12:20 Fri Feb 24
Re: Reaching out
I'll accept 'tsunami' in a strictly scientific context. For everyday metaphorical use we already have the perfectly adequate 'tidal wave'.

Schadenfreude is a good one.

, 12:15 Fri Feb 24
Re: Reaching out
We readily adopt a foreign word into our everyday talk when it describes something that we do not have a one specific word of our own.

Two examples readily spring to mind, tsunami and schadenfreude.
